SPIRITUAL DRUNKENNESS – IS IT A BIBLICAL PRACTICE FOR CHRISTIANS?

Rooted and Grounded In Christ

Under the Law, the priests were forbidden from entering the presence of God in a drunken stupor, and the penalty for doing so was death.

And the Lord spake unto Aaron, saying, Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean… ~ Leviticus 10:8-10

During the time of Isaiah, judgement was pronounced because of the drunkenness of the priests and prophets.

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision…

  1. Hi Michael, Excellent biblical study on this subject and I totally agree! Once you see the element of mockery, you also see mockery in many “slain in the spirit” manifestivations, false prophecies and “heavenly visitations” imitation “gifts of the Spirit” that are so prevalent in some so called evangelical circles today. It’s mockery with a distinct element of defiance and abandonment to the “experience” that is totally abhorrent to God’s Holy Spirit. There is a distinct difference between God’s empowerment, which is a validation of, versus abandonment, which is a departure from. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it, the two are not the same. I have earmarked this post in my “resources” when this and other aspects will be covered in my “Framework Series” later. And as always, God’s Holy Spirit sovereignty associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit are replaced with “self willed” claimed activations for all, which is clearly not biblical, not to mention the aspect of actually charging esculating fees for “teaching” the processes to do so through various “schools” which have no shortage of students. The abhorrent practise of selling has been taken right into the sanctuary. There is no depth or corner to which the accuser will not go. I find it sobering to see the defiance and mockery manifested. Blessings!

    • I certainly believe there can be rejoicing, gladness, dancing, etc, that is pure and blessed, but acting intoxicated isn’t supported anywhere in the scriptures. Sadly I was once apart of this but thankfully, my heart was towards Jesus and the truth.
